Daniel James Nolan
Missing since January 1st, 2002 from High Street, Hamble, Hampshire, UK
Circumstances of disappearance
It was January 1st when Daniel Nolan set off, as he had done many times before, for a late-night fishing trip with three of his friends on the Quay at Hamble. Dan was supposed to return home at 2 am (02:00), his mother got concerned when he hadn't returned by 2:45 am (02:45). She went to look for him and only found his fishing gear, so she called the police and a search was launched at 4:30 am (04:30).
Daniel was last seen by witnesses at 11:40 pm (23:40) outside the Victory pub in Hamble, where he parted company with his friends. As they headed home, he went back down the winding lane towards the quay to collect his fishing gear.
Daniel lives in Hamble, near
Southampton. He is a remarkable boy who is extremely bright. His hobbies are
fishing, sailing, canoeing and football. Dan has three brothers and one sister.
He is a member of the Hamble Sea Scouts and goes to King Edward VI School in
Southampton. Hamble is a picturesque, yachting village. Dozens of sailing boats
are moored in its quay.
The River and surrounding waters have been searched thoroughly but there is no
evidence to show he fell in. He is a competent swimmer and has a wide knowledge
of the River, he would not intentionally put himself in danger. He may have been
taken by someone in a vehicle or on a boat. Five police diving teams, two army
sonar units and specialist sniffer dogs have searched for him, but nothing was
found. Daniel's parents have offered a £50 000 reward if he is found.
Skeletal human remains were found in Warsash beach, Southampton on February 15 and February 23, 2003. An examination of the bones suggested the body was that of a young male, and that the bones had been in their skeletal form for less than four years. There is a possibility that these bones belong to Daniel or to another missing teenager, Damien Nettles. DNA samples were extracted from the bones on February 2003.
